Joe Leko started his career as a deputy with the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office in 1997. He worked various assignments including courts, transport, school resource officer, recreational safety, patrol, and drug and gang investigator.
In 2006, Joe was promoted to sergeant and assigned to patrol and then as a team leader at the Dakota County Drug Task Force. In 2009, he assumed the role of Commander of the Dakota County Drug Task Force. The Dakota County Drug Task Force was referred to as a model agency in the State of Minnesota under Joe’s oversight and continues to be so today.
Joe served on SWAT for eleven years and was the team’s first certified explosive breacher. He was promoted to captain in 2011 where he supervised the patrol division and, in 2014, the detention services division which encompasses courts, transport, and the 264-bed jail.
In 2015, Joe was appointed as Sheriff Leslie’s Chief Deputy where he served for eight years before being elected Sheriff on November 8, 2022.

For the meeting of February 12, 2025 there are 39 cards and 2 Jokers. The pot stands at $123.00.Ticket donations are: $1 for 1 ticket; $2 for 3 tickets; $3 for 5 tickets; $5 for 10 tickets; and $10 for 25 tickets. Three lucky winners are chosen each week; the first two tickets drawn win $5, the third winner draws a card from the deck in hopes of pulling an Ace to win a share of the pot. If a joker is pulled, it will cost the winner a $2 contribution to the pot. If the Ace of Spades is pulled, the pot is awarded equally to all who have pulled an Ace from the current deck, and the drawing starts over again. Congratulations to Tim Benetti for drawing the Ace of Clubs and Diamonds, and Brian Bessler for drawing the Ace or Hearts. They are guaranteed 1/4 of the pot.
