TOPIC: Honoring Student of the Month and Fundraising Horse Syndicate
How the Horse Syndicate Fundraiser Works (Thank you Scott Ramsdale for the Information)
The causes - This event raises money for: 1) 360 communities Armful of Love Holiday Program and 2) Toys 4 Military Kids
The Activity – On 10/16 we will be auctioning the Horses on a Stick. We have raised between $5,000 and $7,000 for the causes. From these funds we purchase holiday gift cards for families in need at 360 communities for their Armful of Love Holiday Program. We also donate $1,500 to $2,500 to Toys 4 Military Kids (Eagan based non profit) who provide toys to military families, as they are not eligible for Toys for Tots toys.
Horse Auction – Groups of Rotarians organize themselves together to bid on the number of the horse they want. There are 6 horses total (1 for each side of a die). The highest bidder at the auction gets to select the horse number they would like. The second auction winning syndicate selects their favorite horse. Etcetera until all 6 horses are auctioned. The horse number becomes important at the Holiday Party in the first week of December when we race the horses.
Naming rights – Your group gets to provide a syndicate name and horse name for the horse you purchase. Be creative, but remember there may be children in attendance.
Horse races – At the Holiday party we race the horses on a large brown “turf” that is marked out with 6 lanes and 9 spaces. We roll over sized dice (as Anne may recall last year helping the kids).
The trophy – The name of the Winning Syndicate and the Horse is engraved on our oversized Rotary Cup.
Your job - join / form / lead / gather a flock of Rotarians for a syndicate.

For the meeting of October 16, 2024 there are 52 cards and 2 Jokers. The pot stands at $25.00. Ticket donations are: $1 for 1 ticket; $2 for 3 tickets; $3 for 5 tickets; $5 for 10 tickets; and $10 for 25 tickets. Three lucky winners are chosen each week; the first two tickets drawn win $5, the third winner draws a card from the deck in hopes of pulling an Ace to win a share of the pot. If a joker is pulled, it will cost the winner a $2 contribution to the pot. If the Ace of Spades is pulled, the pot is awarded equally to all who have pulled an Ace from the current deck, and the drawing starts over again.
