State Senator Greg Claussen
Legislative Session Update

Greg Clausen has been an educator over 44 years, serving the Bloomington and Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan District 196 Public Schools as a classroom teacher, coash, assistnat principal, high school principal and disctric office administrator  he served as Rousemount High School principal for 15 years and District 196 for 37 years.

He is currently a second term Minnesota Senator serving the communities of Apple Valley, Rosemount, Coates, and Northeast Lakeville.  He is a Bloomington High School graduate and attended Augsburg College earnign a degree in the Social Sciences and Education.  He went on to receive both a M.A. Degree in Education Curriculum and Instruction and an Education Administration Ed. Sepcialist Degree from the University of St. Thomas.

He has served as a member on the Dakota County Affordable Housing coalition, Heading Home Dakota Committee to end homelessness and as Board Vice Chair of Dakota Woodlands, a homeless shelter in Eagan.  He is also a former board member for the Rocky Mountain Region of Thrivent Financial and the University of Minnesota Colege in the Schools Advisory Board.  He has received Distinguished Service Awards fromt he Lek Conference Associaton of Schools, Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan Public Schools, and the City of Rosemount.  He has also received the Roseount High School Legacy Award for his commitment in advancing fine and performing arts programs.

Since entering office in 2013, Senator Clausen has received the 2015 Minnesota Psychiatric Society Paul Wellstone Mental Health Advocacy Award, named 2014 Outstanding Legislator by the Minnesota School Boards Association, honored as the 2014 National Alliance on Mentla Illness-NAMI Legislator of the Year, 2013-2014Champion for Racial Equality-Voices for Racial Justice, 2014 Friend of Public Edutin-Associaiton of Metropolitan School Districts-AMSD, 2013 Natiional Alliance on Mental Illness-NAMI Leadership Award on Children's Mental Health and 2016 Lutheran Social Services Financial Advisory Award.

Notalble bills authored include: All-Day Kindergarten, Health Care Workforce Expansion, Student Loan Refinancing, 529 College Savings Plan Tax Credit, College Loan Tax Credit, Tax Increment Financing funding for two City of Apple Valley projects, Minnesota Zoo appropriations, DCTC transportation and Emerging Technologies appropriation.

Greg has served on the Senate Higher Education and Workforce Development Fiscal and Policy Comittees as vice Chair, Health and Human Services Fiscal Committee, E-12 Education Policy Comitte and the State Departments and Veterans Fiscal Committee.  He served three years as the Co-Chair for the Legislative Health Care Workforce Commission.  Currently Senator Clausen is the Minority Lead ont he Higher Education Policy and Fiscal Committes and also is a member of the E-12 Education Policy Comittee and School Trust Lands Commission.  Gred and his wife Roberta live in Apple Valley and have three adult children, five grandsons, and a granddaughter.
